I need some ideas! Tigger has been clicker trained since 6 months old and knows what it's all about, we've got to the stage of riding and he is perfect on the ground (well most of the time) and ridden wise I've taught what I know to teach and so the clicker sessions are not happening any more as I haven't anything in mind that I want to teach him other than just re-enforcing what he already knows from time to time, so I want some ideas on things I can start to teach him now just for fun.

The thing that has me thinking about this is now is whenever I see Tigger he's worked and I think he's getting bored so I want to bring the fun back in to what we are doing by doing a session of clicker training and learning something new from time to time as he loves it and it helps the bond etc, I think he's getting bored with actually doing work all the time and I want to keep him stimulated with something he enjoys!

Now Bo has always been a bit of a loon, but that is just her character and she is fun. However since moving yards she has become more and more highly strung and dangerous which was nerve wracking to say the last.

It turns out that she must have been magnesium deficient. I started her on Magnesium oxide 3 -4 weeks ago what with the spring grass coming through and her being a welshie who gets fat at the drop of a hat and it's like someone has swapped my pony for one that looks the same but is calm and relaxed.

Within 3 weeks she has gone from mental back to being fun and forward going yet safe. I have my old Bo back and I am sooooo happy it's unreal!!

Last weekend we rode into the woods, open and shut gates with no hysterics, encountered new forest ponies without doing airs above ground and even popped a log and had a canter without her getting worked up into a tizz!!

Yesterday we even did some schooling in the field and it was most definately something that resembled schooling. Walk, trot and even canter whilst Bo stayed calm and actually listened to me. I'd forgotten just how responsive she is when she listens and what a joy she is to ride when she's not acting like a wild thing. I also did all this schooling in a bareback pad instead of a saddle, something I haven't done for over a year and thought I would never do again due to her being mental!!

Sorry for waffling but I am just so happy that I have found the reason why she was getting more and more loony and stressed and highly strung. I am also glad it is something that is so easily remedied!!

I am one seriously happy Hairy Fairy today I can tell you!! :D

It's only taken two or three half hour sessions to get her to do it, she's still a tad unsure on the other rein and isn't too hot on voice commands either but for a horse that just loves standing with people and very reluctantly parts from them getting her to circle me like this is a really big achievement!

Very happy! :D

I intend on learning how to long rein her once I've learnt how to actually do it (and practiced on Holly) as the arena's don't have the best surfaces for lunging big horses.

So, as advised by you's I have put Holly in a paddock - she's been there since Wednesday. We still are in our winter turnout stage so she's still coming in at night, but they are planned to go out full time this Saturday. She's currently in a paddock with a very old horse, Copper, who is a doll and catches just fine. I've kept her muzzled for now because I don't want her gorging during the daytime, but I had planned on taking the muzzle off by Saturday as I don't want her being out in it 24/7 as she doesn't drink with it on.

I also thought it was a good idea (as many of you lot suggested) to get someone to ride Holly for me, as I don't have the time to ride Holly all the time and only really have time to lunge in the mornings. I am still aiming to get her weight down to at least 330 KG although I think she's still hovering at the 350 mark, so getting someone else to ride her whilst I'm at work seemed a good idea.

Well how wrong I was. Despite the girl's best efforts, and her Mum's best efforts, my bloomin Pony would not catch for her on Thursday nor would she catch for her on Wednesday and she wouldn't catch on Saturday for her either. On two of the said occasions, Holly was in the field by herself as well. It makes me look like an idiot, I tell the girl she can ride, lay out all of Holly's tack and the girl sets aside her own time (which she could be spending with her horse) to ride mine and Holly just pees off like an idiot around the field meaning the riding time is probably going to have to be hit on the head. I'd booked the arena out and everything. I know it doesn't help the catching situation that the girl walks out the field, but I can't expect someone who's doing me a favour to stick around for endless amounts of time trying to catch my horse. It just doesn't work.

I do have a sneaky feeling that after Saturday Holly will turn into a self proclaimed field ornament until my exams are over, which is a huge shame as we have a show lined up in late July which I could really do with schooling for. I don't know how I'm going to sort her muzzle out, as once it's off I expect her to turn back to the fatty she was and the mule of a catcher that she's always been.

So it's fair to say I'm not best pleased, but in a way I don't know why I expected her to change? :(

One thing is sure, she better catch Friday night as I AM NOT missing the cross country schooling on Saturday. If need's be I'll take Abbi just so she can look around.

Gr. This is the most frustrating thing ever. Please cross your fingers she catches tomorrow.

:D The past couple of weeks I have had to do all the work on Amber because Lizzie is doing her A levels and can't do as much riding at home.

Anyway I have finally got it right with her! She schools so nicely I don't realise how long I have been riding sometimes and what should be a half hour session can easily stray in to an hour or two :scared: I just don't notice the time fly by. We have got her now cantering full circles and changing legs and paces smoothly. I am so pleased because we did hit a blip a few weeks back and I went through a phase of disliking riding her but now it is all coming together nicely again and Karl has noticed she is now going better for me than Lizzie who has to nag at her to do things where she just responds instantly with me, saying that her session with Lizzie today was the best in sometime and I have been explaining how I am getting the responses I get and Lizzie is trying to replicate my aids. Its hard to explain as she was dead to the leg so nagging her doesn't work very well, you have to reduce your use of leg and occasssionally apply a 'pony club kick' if she doesn't respond, as time has gone on she has changed her response and now just needs one squeeze and no more, occassionally a little click with the tongue to maintain impulsion.

Last night Hannah and I went for our first sunny evening hack since buying Amber last year. It was heaven on earth Amber was nice and calm, quite bold infact. We had a few canters and a gallop by the river (my first on her) and I never once felt like she would spook or throw me off. Hannah and Star really enjoyed their ride too, Star being as fast as ever and Hannah loving it!

Again I wanted to ride for ever but sadly it had to end :(. I am finding my love for riding again and as much as I miss my old girls Amber is doing well in filling the gaps they left xx

Hannah took this piccie afterwards...you can see how happy I am :)
Bless him! We got 1st in the under 16s 65cm sj, 2nd in the under 16s 75cm (clipped one in the initial round). He also picked up a 1st in the welsh class and 2nd in the roans with his owner :)

He's doing sooo well! So we've booked in for some XC training next week and a ODE on the 4th June, will get some piccies for you all ;) Got no pics of the 75cm but I have some of the other classes

Basically a lady posted on a Facebook group looking for someone quiet yet experienced and confident to ride her youngster. I initially decided not to respond as Shadow pretty much takes up most of my time and I look after him as though he's my own, the girls and I on the yard just sort out who's doing which feeds. So, I figured taking on another one just wouldn't work.

Buttt, it turns out the lady was literally 5mins down the road from where Shadow is kept. The horses are kept on her own land at her house so she's around all the time to feed/etc. which would mean I could easily sort Shadow in the mornings/evenings before going to ride hers.

So I went to see him and basically fell in love, meet Thomas :D

He's a 4y/o, New Forest X Warmblood about 14.3h. He still has a bit of filling out to do though! Basically his owner bought him as a youngster as a companion for her dressage horse (who's awesome, she let me jump him yesterday!), sadly Thomas is just a little on the small side for her but she can't bare to sell him right now because he is rather green and wouldn't necessarily go to a 'forever' home. Sooo, if she can get him out and about doing as much as possible and make him a super PC pony, she'll be more happy about selling him to a really good home.

Right now he's pretty green, I've hacked out twice in company (today she took 3 of us out in her lorry just for a change of scenery, awesome!). He's alright in the school, just lacks a bit of steering and tends to fall in...but that will all come in time. The most important thing is that he's just such a nice person, he loves people and just wants to please. He gets scared by most things 4 y/o's do but as long as someone is on top telling him it's all ok, he's fine. So my summer is now filled with two super ponies to play with! Also, she owns the land that boarders the land I already have permission to ride on so I can easily ride over to hers from Shadow's yard - all very exciting!

Here he is with a girl who perviously rode him, sadly they didn't quite click as she sometimes got nervous which wasn't exactly ideal for a youngster.

(I have permission to post)

He's such a super little horse :D

By pure chance I've found a new riding school that's opened 10mins from me that do dressage lessons, general lessons and hacking for very reasonable prices :D

I've booked myself in for a 1hr private lesson just to get me back into the swing of things, next Thursday night. PLEASE DON'T RAIN!.

On google maps it looks as though they have a 60x20 all weather school.

They are also a livery yard and apparently do sometimes have owners looking for sharers so i'm going to take my advert to put on their notice board.

So excited
