Horse Head Markings

A horse may have a white marking on its face and different names are given according to the size and location of this marking.  Check out our guide to horse head markings.

Head markings are present from birth and do not change as the horse ages.

A blaze is a broad white marking down the horse's face that extends over the nose.

A star is a white marking on the forehead of the horse. Horses may have a star and snip (see below) combination.

A Snip is a white marking between the  horse's nostrils, sometimes extending into the nostrils. Horses may have a snip and star (see above) combination.
